Rene Descartes' philosophical views were that the mind can work on it's own and if we can think, we must be living. Perception is an irrefutable truth because we can be sure of something that our mind is telling us, but not of what our body sees. Descartes believes we should live a life of doubt because not everyone's bodies are the same. For example, we may see a picture of a tree but others may see a flower or a piece of broccoli. Perceiving is an irrefutable truth which leads to Descartes and his famous saying, "I think, therefore I am."
